Workshop on interactive acoustic communication in dynamic VR, using TASCAR and OVBOX

07.10.2026 - 08.10.2026

The workshop will cover key TASCAR and OVBOX concepts, including interactive binaural rendering, data logging, Matlab integration, calibration, and room acoustics. Participants will gain hands-on experience working in small groups.  TASCAR (Toolbox for Acoustic Scene Creation and Rendering) is a tool for creating interactive, dynamic acoustic scenes. Focusing on the physically motivated, low-delay simulation of acoustics, TASCAR serves as a laboratory tool for reproducible science. Early reflections can be simulated using a geometric image source model, while diffuse late reverberation can be added via a feedback delay network (FDN) or convolution reverberation. TASCAR is completely open source and available for Linux, MacOS, and Windows. The OVBOX is a low-delay network communication tool with applications in music and communication research. It is based on TASCAR.

Participation is free of charge, but no catering is provided. There are several canteens and cafeterias available on campus. As the number of participants is limited to approx. 12, registration via this online form is required: https://cloud.uol.de/apps/forms/s/RnRGJ6nX24ZJBmsW8LpJnmq5. You can also choose to participate in some sessions only; please indicate this when you register. The workshop will be held in English and will take place in the NeSSy building on Wechloy campus (room W30 0-027/28).
