3rd place for Wiebke Middelberg at the ARD/ZDF “Frauen + Medientechnologie” Award 2022
Wiebke Middelberg’s master’s thesis ‘GSC-Based Noise and Interferer Reduction for Binaural Hearing Aids Exploiting External Microphones’ in Engineering Physics at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg was awarded third place in the ARD/ZDF ‘Women + Media Technology’ 2022 prize, which is endowed with 2,000 euros.
Middelberg’s master’s thesis deals with the processing of noisy audio signals using spatially distributed microphones. An example situation is a cocktail party: a single voice from the mix of voices of the guests is to be increased in intelligibility, while all other voices are to be suppressed as unwanted sound sources as far as possible. Areas of application for new solutions using improved algorithms lie not only in hearing aid technology, but also, for example, in the voice control of digital media.
