Birger Kollmeier new acatech member

Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier, Head of the Division of Medical Physics in the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and spokesperson for the Hearing4all Cluster of Excellence, is a new member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech).

More than 600 outstanding scientists from all over Germany belong to the academy, mainly from the engineering and natural sciences, but also from the humanities and social sciences. Kollmeier’s appointment marks the first time that a scientist from the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics at the University of Oldenburg has been represented in the renowned organization. The voluntary appointment recognises an outstanding contribution to science.

Kollmeier is the founder and member of various institutions in the field of hearing research, audiology and acoustics as well as spokesperson for the Hearing4all Cluster of Excellence. He has received several scientific awards, such as the German Future Prize for Technology and Innovation of the Federal President (2012) in the project team “Binaural hearing aids – spatial hearing for all”.

acatech is the National Academy of Science and Engineering funded by the Federal Government and the Länder. Under the patronage of the Federal President, acatech provides advice on strategic engineering and technology policy issues to policymakers and the public.
