In a quiet environment, hearing still seems to work well, but in situations with a lot of background noise, it is difficult to understand conversations properly, for instance. This so-called hidden hearing loss could have a different cause than previously assumed. Researchers at the University of Oldenburg and Hannover Medical School, who are working together in the Hearing4all Cluster of Excellence on clinical and practical hearing problems, have discovered this.
